Travelling to l’ile de Ré – part 2

Travelling to l'ile de Ré - Part 2

Travelling to l'ile de Ré - Fisherman, Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré Like the Bay of Arcachon, l’île de Ré is definitively a destination for nature and fitness lovers.
There is about 100 kms of cycling path that will take you around the island from Saint-Martin-en-Ré where I took these photos to La Flotte and Ars-en-Ré, all very nice destinations on the island.
You don’t really have to worry about where to stay, the island is quite small and you can get from one side of the island to the other on the back of your bike.

As you can see from my photos, the weather was quite overcast when I was there. It wasn’t exactly the perfect bikini beach day, more like a breton wearing kind of day but it was still very beautiful.

I became fascinated by this fisherman on the beach installing his net for the night. He had carried some heavy stones in a wheelbarrow on the beach, threw his net and was securing it on each side with a massive stone. I asked him what he thought he would catch and he told me to come and check it out tomorrow morning. As it turned out, I was on the beach at 7am running the next morning but I didn’t stop.
He was wearing the traditional vareuse fishermen wear, a thick piece of clothing made of canvas cotton great to protect yourself from the wind (great for sailing too). His figure and grey hair were blending perfectly with the arrays of greys, greens and blues on the beach…not that he cared but this was adding to the quintessential picture I was witnessing.

I was so worried my photos wouldn’t be able to translate what I was seeing with my eyes that I took heaps of them but I’m glad to say that the final pictures are actually a pretty good reflection of the colours I saw.Travelling to l'ile de Ré - Fisherman, Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré Travelling to l'ile de Ré - Fisherman, Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré Travelling to l'ile de Ré - Fisherman, Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré Travelling to l'ile de Ré - Fisherman, Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré Travelling to l'ile de Ré - Fisherman, Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré Travelling to l'ile de Ré - Fisherman, Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré Travelling to l'ile de Ré - Fisherman, Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré Travelling to l'ile de Ré - Fisherman, Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré To get there from the UK, fly to La Rochelle airport and then rent a car or book a private chauffeur. We used this company during our press trip which was very good.
