10 of the best oversized mirrors

15 of the best oversized mirrors

I’m currently planning a long-overdue refurbishment of the bathroom in our holiday home in France (see my bathroom board) and lately, I have been obsessing with oversized round mirrors. I was very happy with the minimalist look of the bathroom cabinet we got for our tadelakt bathroom in our London home, which would you believe, is from Ikea. I was even thinking of using it again for the French project as it ticked several of my boxes.

#weekly fashion edit

Before the start of the Summer, I packed all my Autumn/Winter clothes into several suitcases and stored them in a cupboard. Last week, I started unpacking them to re-organise my wardrobe for the new season… Having empty drawers to fill in, helped I think, as it felt like working with a blank canvas. I wasn’t in the mood to clutter my cupboard again and therefore, it was easy to part from some items that I couldn’t see myself wearing again and others (regardless of the price, brand) that I wanted to keep. Point in case, this sequin sweatshirt from H&M, grabbed in the sale at 2 euros,  is a keeper! “70% staple pieces, 30% on-trend pieces is the ratio I’m aiming for, in my wardrobe this year” Always aiming to be as minimalist as I can (and I have a long way to go…), this year I really want to streamline my wardrobe and have staple pieces with a few on-trend items to complete the look. I want pieces that will last me for a few …

How to create your own working nook

Today I love…

This beautiful, creative space… It’s actually a DIY project from Dutch magazine VT Wonen and you can find the tutorial to create this little nook here. The instructions are in Dutch but if you are using Google Chrome, you can activate an add-on (Google Translate) in the tool bar to translate automatically pages written in a different language (very useful!). They’ve used Light Blue No 22 by Farrow & Ball, which I think, looks really pretty and summery. What do you think? It is a colour I wouldn’t usually think of using as I tend to go for hues of whites and greys (see our bedroom) but I really like how it softly contrasts with the rest of the room in white. It’s always nice to work from a space filled with natural light, isn’t it!? I had set up an office in one of the spare rooms in our home in France but most days I work from the dining table in our lounge, because the room is filled with natural light. Ideally, at some point, I would …

#weekly fashion edit: Chelsea boots

#weekly fashion edit

I discovered Cecilie Copenhagen last year on Instagram and bought this gorgeous Topanga top in black which is unbelievably sexy and stylish. As the new A/W17 collection has the just hit the stores, I spotted this beautiful Beat round neck cotton dress (1) which would be really easy to wear through several seasons. “Iconic since the 60s, Chelsea boots are a great staple for Autumn & Winter” Rather than pairing it with a pair of flat pumps, I would break the mould and wear them with a pair of classic Chelsea boots (5). I really like the feeling of wearing strong, solid boots especially when the rest of my outfit is feminine and I’m still in love with the Chelsea boots I got last year in Paris, from Anthology Paris . There is also a few sizes left on Smallable. Unfortunately they are khaki but sometimes when a colour is dark enough, you can get away with applying dark/black shoe cream. Church’s has also some fantastic brogues and boots for a masculine look. Regardless of where you get yours from, if you …

Childen's bedroom makeover

Mila’s desk area makeover

Last time, we decorated Mila’s room in our holiday home in France, was shortly after we purchased the house and refurbished it at the speed of the light to rent it over Summer. Mila was two years old. We fitted a sisal carpet on the floor to hide the uneven concrete floor, painted the walls in white and added two single beds as the house is rented out to other families during the summer and caters for 8 people + a baby. If you click on the second image here when the house was featured in Boligdrom magazine in 2014 and Grand Designs in 2008, you will see that we turned the front and back of a vintage French iron bed into two headboards for each single bed. Fast forward 10 years, Mila is now a 12 year old pre-teens, well into surfing, skating and all of the above is gone. Her room is still in need of a serious makeover and I’m planning at some point, to paint one of her walls in light …

Back to school look

Back to school look

Twelve years in the making and it’s the first time that I didn’t drop Mila to the wrong school or the wrong day (the year she got into the French Lycée in London, I took her the day before school started). It’s also the first time, I got everything done in time including school supplies courtesy of the parents association, which had the brilliant idea to centralise all purchases to save time and money to the parents. All I had to do was ticked a list, send a cheque and collect everything last Saturday (time spent on buying school stationary = 10 minutes, Stress level = peanuts). God Bless Parents Associations!!On Sunday, I got overwhelmed (and sad) by the realisation that she is growing up fast but today I’m  feeling better now. These feelings come and go and we just have to make the most of the time we have with our kids, while we can, can’t we!? At the end of the day, I’m hugely proud of the human being she is and the …

Fresh look in our dining room BEFORE & AFTER

Our dining room renovations Part 1

And just like that…Summer was gone. We moved back into our home after a whole Summer away and I’m now looking at the house with fresh eyes to see how to finish our dining renovations and what projects we can (budget permitting) tackle. For now, let me show you what we did recently in the lounge and dining area rather than focusing on what need to be done
