SUKHA | AMSTERDAM

Sukha Amsterdam, inspiring shop, white interiors, textures, naturals on http://blog.bodieandfou.com/

One shop that I always visit when I’m in Amsterdam and which never ceases to inspire me and provide visual inspiration, is Sukha on Haarlemmerstraat 110.
There is something very soothing about Sukha

Painted in white, with a floor to ceiling window adorned by greenery, the shop is filled with natural light filtering from the glass roof. As soon as you walk in, you feel good. Everything around you is beautiful, handmade, textured, calming…
I love how this inviting and welcoming space regularly becomes a large blank canvas to display the most wonderful and inspiring styling.
And the styling changes often. Sukha regularly commissioned a local Illustrator to create new window displays or write poems in Dutch on the walls.
I told them, they should make wall stickers out of this beautiful writing…I know I would have one in my home. So if they are available next time you go there, you will know where the idea comes from ;-)
The photos below are from past displays.
When I took my mum and sister last weekend, they had a giant white teepee with mezzanine instead of the hammock below.

Each time I visit, I want to walk away with most of the shop, like this beautiful door, or a few of their big linen cushions, a throw woven in Nepal, some pretty ceramics…

Having bought a gorgeous grey cushion for Mila with JE T’AIME embroidered on it, I had very little space left in my suitcase so this time, I treated myself with one of their canvas with their trademark writing to hang in our new kitchen and a new book called At The Ocean.
And if you are hungry, I really recommend Vinnies Deli two blocks away, which makes delicious superfood quinoa salads, green juices and chocolate brownie.
So what do you think? Seduced?

DESIGN BLOGGERS UNITED DINNER | AMSTERDAM

October 7, 2014

Check out this fab Design Bloggers dinner in Amsterdam http://blog.bodieandfou.com/
Last Friday I attended a dinner in Amsterdam, organised by friends who are behind Design Bloggers United and it was just perfection. From the choice of the venue at Pistache to the catering by Lady Grey catering and the styling of our table with blue tableware from French company Pillyvuyt, everything was just perfect and I had a really great time.
I absolutely loved the venue! My first reaction when I was walked in was the same when I first spotted the glass panel in our new kitchen…WOW…so cool and airy, the kind of place you wish you could move into.
Check out this amazing space and tell me who will run & jump across the room singing What A Feeling with me!??

The overall feel of the room was amazing but the organisation was just ace. They had planned everything to the perfection. We had drinks from V2C Gin, a Dutch company that makes 100% organic gin and I tried the oaked gin which was very nice. I wish now, I had brought back a bottle for Steve.

I absolutely loved the soft, industrial feel of the venue and look at this fab open-plan kitchen…

One of the best thing about blogging is the friends you make.
I absolutely hate networking the way it happens in the corporate world. I can’t walk a room with my business cards and introduce myself to people I’ve never met. It bores me to death and to be honest, I’m too shy but through blogging I have met a lot of great people, I have now been friends with for years, and it was great to catch up with many of them who I had last seen in Copenhagen or Paris
If you are off to Amsterdam soon, you can still check out Pistache and have a pizza there.

A beautiful warehouse in Amsterdam

February 25, 2014

It’s always a very nice feeling when two people who never met, appreciate each other’s work and aesthetics and they finally meet.
That’s what happened between Emily Gray and I when we met last year at Playtime in Paris and it was wonderful.
I’m a big fan of the style and aesthetics of Gray Label, the minimalist Kids fashion label she created and I’m totally in love with the gorgeous family home she shared with her husband Marius Haverkamp, an interior designer running Flow and their two children.

Keeping the beautiful red brick wall* – one of the original features of the building – they’ve added warmth and textures using wood, fabrics and nature. The polished concrete floor contrasts beautifully with the roughness of the wall and the glass and metal structure built around a patio, makes their family home, private and welcoming….the perfect happy space for family time at weekends.
I’m still trying to find a material similar to polished concrete floor for our kitchen and I will let you know when I get anywhere…
✔️ In the UK, Dreamwall supplies DIY wall cladding systems (check the brick section here).
✔️ Similar rustic chopping boards can be found here.
✔️The FORM table is very similar to the one above and MADE has a great selection of upholstered dining chairs (the Flynn dining chairs in midnight black or the Jersey dining chairs in graphite grey would look really good with this kind of table).

The stunning handmade black chandelier in the kitchen was a wedding gift. It is made of clay in Africa. I’ve seen it in Anthropologie on Kings Road in London and a white version in MERCI in Paris (from memory, it retails at about 5000 euros). This wooden chandelier is similar in shape and more affordable.
✔️ The Z1 pendant light in the lounge is by Chilean Creative Director Nelson Sepuvelda, who I photographed in Paris last January.
✔️ Similar Boucherouite rugs can be found at Beldirugs in the UK.
✔️You can find vintage rattan furniture at L’Atelier du Parc, a gorgeous French website which has a fabulous, vintage selection of rattan cots and beds for kids.

So..what did you think of this gorgeous, family warehouse?
