8 favourite summer spots in the Bay of Arcachon

A few people coming to stay in our holidays homes (this one for 6 people and this one for 8 people) have been asking me about places to eat and what to do with young children so here are my favourite spots to eat in the Bay of Arcachon and they are all child-friendly.

At home, France

This year, I will be travelling quite a lot back and forth between London and the Bay of Arcachon so I will take this opportunity to share with you my favourite addresses in this beautiful region, starting with a few updated photos of our open-plan kitchen/dining room in our home in France. We quickly renovated our holiday home 8 years ago on a budget and did a lot of the work ourselves like laying down the solid oak floorboards above, putting plasterboards up, painting the whole house and dealing with local cowboys builders. It was gruelling and not fun at all, which is why I’m glad we are doing things differently to renovate the London house (#bodieandfourenovations) The kitchen (it bugs me each time I look at this skirting board!) is from Ikea and the Vipp bin is a limited edition we did with iconic Danish brand Vipp (a creative collab’ I’m hugely proud of). As we did everything on a budget, I mixed great design pieces from BODIE and FOU like these beautiful bone china pendant shades (above the kitchen counter), …

TRAVEL: 4 BOUTIQUE HOTELS, ARCACHON/CAP-FERRET

I spent all my childhood holidays in the Bay of Arcachon with her (who was feeding us with Nutella and ice creams after the beach…happy times!) First in Biscarosse, when she was Director of holidays resort (and I recently realised how terribly modern she was being in management in the 60s with 4 daughters in tow), and then in Arcachon where she retired in 1977. It’s a really beautiful region with amazing sand beaches and landscapes and if you’ve never been, have a look at the photos I posted on Instagram from my recent trip… The first time, our home in France was photographed by YOU magazine in 2007, I had a hard time finding a decent design hotel to recommend to the team. There wasn’t much around and the few 4 stars hotels around, had just vile interior design with horrible bedspreads. I’m glad to say that things have changed for the best in the past seven years and here is a list of my favourite design/boutique hotels around the Bay of Arcachon to drink/eat/sleep. Sunday Market by Aurelie Lecuyer

I’ve always loved the styling and the home of Aurelie Lecuyer. It’s simple, fresh and it has a happy feel. All these fabrics and colours mixed together is really uplifting, don’t you think?I have to admit Aurelie’s room is the only one that (almost!!) makes me regret to have painted one of Mila’s wall in dark grey :-)Aurelie is a freelance stylist but she recently launched Sunday Market with her friend Anne Millet who is behind the blog Mymobilehome. I love it!Let me know what you think. It’s nice to read your comments…Someone kindly reminded me yesterday I had promised to share my chocolate coconut brownie after the Summer so I will try to do this for you next weekend. Have a lovely Sunday http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogspot/UxVs

Moodboard inspired by Paris…

In about 30min, I will head off to Gare du Nord to catch the Eurostar and go back to London. I had such a cool time. The weather was fab, I caught up with lots of friends at the weekend and still managed to run 3 times with Elodie early in the morning which makes me very happy but usually, I can’t be bothered doing anything when I’m travelling.  M&O was tiring, it’s a massive show and you spent a lot of time walking but I have found some really gems, some beautiful things for kids that give me butterflies, a gorgeous bag for men and lots of ideas. Until I see you on the other side of the Channel, here is a little mood board inspired by Paris…   1. Paris map print 2. Decorative hearts 3. Industrial clip on light 4. Birds clothes pegs used as paper clips Dans 30min, je vais aller a la Gare du Nord pour prendre mon train direction London. J’ai passé 4 jours géniaux. Il a fait super …

Un Samedi a Paris…

Of course, we went to MERCI on Saturday and we found the concept store celebrating Japan with gorgeous packaging, calligraphy like the Japanese know how, celebrating simple, utilitarian objects, beautiful to look at.  I kept graviting around their corner for the men, soft, industrial…how I like them, with cashmere jumpers, beautiful leather bags that will last a lifetime and of course the linen corner upstairs that keeps me dreaming and where little by little I’m building my linen collection for our home in London… To finish our inspiring shopping trip, Elodie and I had a drink at MERCI’s cafe, watching people coming in and out of the shop, then a quick visit to Bonton and we ended up running to Zadig & Voltaire’s outlet in Le Marais before closing time.             http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogspot/UxVs

House swap anyone??

I’m embracing the concept of house swap…Our Summer house is rented out the whole Summer until 3rd September and with the launch of the first BODIE and FOU mail order catalogue, I can really go away in September so if anyone has a nice family home in the South of France…and I mean down south where the Sun is, we will be happy to do a house swap either in our house in the Bay of Arcachon when its available (or this one for 6 people which is available in July) or with our London home (although this one is still a labour of love in the making!).I really love this house in Nimes which belongs to designer Myriam Balaÿ Devidal. Love the joyful mix of picture frames on the wall, the walls left as they are after taking the wallpaper off, the white bedroom with the mezzanine (…a dream), the bold wallpaper, the Bookshelf wallpaper next to a real bookshelf and the sense of space, freedom and happiness….and I love Myriam’s lamps! Can I come, …
