How to go on an exciting family gap year around the world

How to go on an exciting family gap year to travel the world

One Instagram account I truly enjoy following is Courtney Adamo’s (34), co-Founder of Babyccino Kids, who is currently on a family gap year with her husband Michael (45) and their four children: Easton (10), Quin (8), Ivy (6), Marlow (3). Leaving London in July 2015, they have so far visited the U.S., Peru, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile and New Zealand, Australia and will soon head to Japan, Thailand, Sri Lanka and then back to Europe for the summer. With four young children, a career and a house, uprooting and embarking on such an adventure takes some serious planning. I got in contact with Courtney to pick her brains on how she organised such a journey. A fascinating read…enjoy! ORGANISING AND BUDGETING A FAMILY GAP YEAR How far in advance did you start planning this amazing trip? Michael and I made the decision to embark on this year of travel back in the autumn of 2014. We put our house in London on the market and it was sold by February. From this point, we started thinking about our trip and narrowing down the places …

10 great things to do in Cap-Breton

We had the best of times recently holidaying in Cap-Breton (I really love the vibes in Hossegor & Cap-Breton). We did lots of sports, the girls had a ball skating, we ate healthily, slept well, caught up with friends and in the end, everyone had an amazing holidays and we all trimmed down. Less than 2 hours away from our holidays home, it’s an area we know well. We had planned a trip to San-Sebastian or Biarritz if the weather was bad but it turned out absolutely gorgeous for two weeks so no sightseeing for us but we did a lot of sports and a bit of shopping. If you are looking at visiting the area in the future, here are 10 of my favourite things to do in Cap-Breton & Hossegor.

8 favourite summer spots in the Bay of Arcachon

A few people coming to stay in our holidays homes (this one for 6 people and this one for 8 people) have been asking me about places to eat and what to do with young children so here are my favourite spots to eat in the Bay of Arcachon and they are all child-friendly.

Holiday rentals in the Bay of Arcachon

We always spent our holidays in France in this home which is now fully booked the whole Summer except the week from 22nd August but we also have this pretty house for 6 people near the Bay of Arcachon where I stayed for three months after giving birth to Mila.

Tea party in our tree house

These are behind-the-scene shots I took when Côté Ouest magazine came to shoot our home last June, which I never shared with you. We moved a lot of things around in the house for the sake of the photoshoot to create new images but I’m especially fond of these photos in our tree house which was built by Steve and was a really work of love. Sadly Mila no longer fit in this fabulous denim jumpsuit which we got from Gap but you can probably find similar ones on Elias and Grace or Smallable. I’ll sell some of Mila’s clothes on Instagram soon.

Happy memories…

I didn’t think I would be posting before Tuesday’s post but here we go with a sore throat that keeps me awake and not much to do without waking up the rest of the family. Thanks God, I had packed some wonderful things from Neals Yard Remedies Still…what a wonderful day we had on the slopes…. Amazing snow and scenery (it felt like we were in The White Company‘s winter catalogue), very few people, to the point that sometimes it felt like we had the slopes to ourselves and two little girls having a laugh, encouraging each other and having a ball. They have two different personalities, two different styles on the skis. Mila will go as fast as she can, fall a thousands time, get up straight away and carry on. Lily will go at her own pace very diligently, fall twice, cries for a while but they will both arrive at the same time. The thing I love the most about those any holidays we spend en famille is seeing how these two love each …

Off skiing with the family

In a few hours, we will be on our way to Paris to pick up Elodie and Lily and then off to the slopes in Andorra. I can’t tell you how excited I am.We started going to Andorra when Elodie was living in Barcelona and loved it so much that we keep returning. Arinsal is a fantastic station for family with young kids (the girls were 5 & 6 when we took them the first time), the snow has mostly been great and the weather pretty good too. You can find more info about ski rental here. The previous years, we flew to Toulouse, rented a car and stayed in a nice hotel so meals were sorted for us at breakfast and diner time. This year, we have decided to drive down and rent a flat so I’ve packed enough gluten-free pasta, bread and flour to last me for a week. The kiwi has packed Gin & tonic… Banana cake recipe, courtoisy of my sister-in-law Lynda from New-Zealand |  Since we will be staying in a lovely flat, I’ve packed …
