Our white kitchen | Renovations

I’m heading to France next month to supervise a new interior design project which I’m really excited about so before I start spamming you with idyllic photos of the Bay of Arcachon, I thought I would share some photos of the kitchen project we recently finished in London.

DECORATING WITH BLACK PENDANT LIGHTS

Since we’ve received some beautiful black pendant lights with a copper finish inside, let me share with you my favourite looks with black pendant lights as a sequel to my post: Decorating with copper and brass touches

& Tradition stools & bar stools

I have yet to find similar bar stools to these gold ones featured here but I wanted to show you these beautiful NA3 stool and NA4 bar stool from & Tradition. I initially considered  them for our new kitchen but it was tricky to match the wood of the stools with…

A relaxing, white, airy kitchen

The minimalist design, the white walls, the massive sky window to fill the room with natural light, the soothing combo of white and natural wood makes this kitchen one of my absolute favourites. From a design point of view, kitchens are my favourite room in a home and I’m absolutely loving everything about this white, airy kitchen. What do you think? This kitchen is from a block of 22 apartments built in a former meat factory by Swedish Architecture practice Arrhov Frick. Sadly I couldn’t find more pictures of the kitchen or the whole flat to share with you so we will have to make do with this sole photo and imagine how the rest of the flat could look like. The design of this kitchen is very simple but yet so efficient and works wonder in a small flat as we all as a warehouse type conversion. Subtle black touches are added throughout the room like this classic Vitra Eames house bird (available from John Lewis) sitting on top of the kitchen units. The square table and the chairs …

Decorating with copper & brass touches

Early this week, I added this beautifully styled kitchen to my Pinterest and realised, digging a bit further, that it was actually a rendering by Raya Todorova rather than a photo, which is pretty amazing. I love the balance between the three copper pendant lights and these 3 beautiful stools against the black kitchen units. I’m not too sure where these lights are from but the Freja pendant light and the Original BTC Stanley copper pendant light available from Marks & Spencer  and Liberty look very similar (still hunting for the stools though…). Since launching the Aston pendant light a few months ago, we received a lot of orders from Australia for residential and commercial projects and I suspect this will be soon the case with the new black Freja pendant light which has a similar copper finish inside to these ones below seen in the home of Athena Calderone. black kitchen with Philippe Starck Masters chairs

Black dining chairs…

For our dining room, I’m looking at two chairs for now….The Knot chair (tried, tested & loved) which has been one of my top favourite chairs for a long time. I took the black one home recently to see how it would look in our new lounge and it looks fab. Second option is the Masters chair designed by Philippe Starck for Kartell. Starck designed the Masters chair to pay tribute to three iconic chairs: the “Series 7” by Arne Jacobsen, the “Tulip Armchair” by Eero Saarinen and the “Eiffel Chair” by Charles Eames. It’s very comfy and has a special finish on the chair, which makes it feel sensual and velvety to the touch but mostly I love the look of it. What do you think? SHOP THE LOOK Photography: 1. A sneak-peek of our kitchen | RENOVATIONS

After 4 1/2 months of intense renovations and an insane high level of dust throughout the whole house, our kitchen is almost ready (see old one here) and I really thank you all for all your very kind comments when I posted this photo. I spent last weekend unpacking and re-discovering pretty ceramics I hadn’t seen in over four months and I even bought some fresh basil in a pot. Once we are settled down, I will defo add one of these beautiful plants. Was four months without a kitchen worth it? Oh yes! We’ve tripled our storage space and created a white kitchen that I loved (I really hated the previous one), with a beautitful, smooth Corian worktop and a very long and inviting breakfast bar. At some point, the level of dust in our house was so high that it was a real challenge to have a ‘normal’ family life, let alone finding a space or the energy to write a blog post so I’ve posted most of the renovation updates on Facebook (you can view the whole renovations album …

5 inspiring and stunning black kitchens

Following my post on the 5 sleek, inspiring and gorgeous white kitchens that inspire our kitchen’s Masterplan, I initially considered a black kitchen especially after seeing Vipp’s black kitchen in Copenhagen. However, I do think black kitchens stand out better when fitted in a very spacious, minimalist room like the Vipp flagship store where we had our pop-up store and Blogger styling competition last week, or one filled with natural light. While our kitchen has a glass roof on one side, the other part has a lower ceiling and we felt, it would make the room looking even smaller rather than giving it the sensation of space we are aiming to achieve so white it is for us (this time!). Here is a selection of the most beautiful black kitchens I came across… I’m loving these glossy black tiles. It’s so different from what we see regularly. It feels daring and luxurious yet the wooden stool, the wooden chopping boards, the industrial Potence wall light and the skylights add a warmth, inviting feeling to the whole room. If I had the right …
