How to create your own working nook

Today I love…

This beautiful, creative space… It’s actually a DIY project from Dutch magazine VT Wonen and you can find the tutorial to create this little nook here. The instructions are in Dutch but if you are using Google Chrome, you can activate an add-on (Google Translate) in the tool bar to translate automatically pages written in a different language (very useful!). They’ve used Light Blue No 22 by Farrow & Ball, which I think, looks really pretty and summery. What do you think? It is a colour I wouldn’t usually think of using as I tend to go for hues of whites and greys (see our bedroom) but I really like how it softly contrasts with the rest of the room in white. It’s always nice to work from a space filled with natural light, isn’t it!? I had set up an office in one of the spare rooms in our home in France but most days I work from the dining table in our lounge, because the room is filled with natural light. Ideally, at some point, I would …

An industrial flat in Barcelona with an amazing kitchen

A cosy white flat with an amazing kitchen

This white apartment in Barcelona, is quite different from this small but so nicely styled 20sqm2 flat or this white flat I showed you a few weeks ago but it has a lot of inspiration to offer… Starting with the kitchen which was the room that first caught my eye. The kitchen manages to combine several styles I like at once: Scandinavian, industrial, contemporary and vintage with a bit of urban jungle and yet everything is beautifully done with a great aesthetic and strong personality.

Waxed Coffee shop in Hossegor

Waxed café in Hossegor

A former workshop converted in a studio

I’m very excited to start the first of my house tours 2016 with this gorgeous studio that was originally a mechanical workshop. Industrial spaces are a favourite of mine. This white and concrete loft in Eindhoven was simply stunning and so was this beautiful family warehouse in Amsterdam so I hope you’ll enjoy this one too. I would also be grateful if you could let me know what kind of house tours you would like to see on the blog this year: white interiors, vintage, industrial, small spaces, kids rooms…what would you find useful and inspiring? Let me know! In the meantime, let’s start this house tour >>

WEEKEND#

What do you think of this bedroom?? I’m planning to knock down the wall in Elodie’s new flat in Paris, between Lily‘s bedroom and the lounge to increase the sense of perspective and open up the space and I think this is a beautiful example of what can be achieved, don’t you think? I also love the mix of throws and rugs adding warmth and textures to the room. Will be quite happy to hang out there for the day, won’t you? This is the house of Danish Artist Gitte Svendsen via Hunch

Today I love...this inspiring styling which blends beautifully textures, B&W photography and industrial furniture. Read on www.karinecandicekong.com

Today I love…

First of all, I’m loving this Bank Holiday Monday, don’t you!? We went for a bike ride early this morning to grab breakfast at Artisan, a really nice café in Stamford Brook that François and I shot a couple of years ago for The Simple Things magazine. I’m now sitting on my bed, admiring the view and working on my impeding interior design project in France while answering booking enquiries about this house (this one has only one week left available in August).

My perfectly imperfect wall

This used to be a terrace on the second floor of our home, that nobody really used so we converted it into this… fab new room, which Steve designed. It has cedar cladding outside (like the whole back of our house now), a large window facing trees (neighbours are quite far out) and two auto-cleaning sky windows, slightly angled to catch the sun at different times of the day (see below). The floorboard is pine wood painted white. If you are interested, you can view the whole renovations album on Facebook here and I posted all the renovation updates on Instagram under hashtag #bodieandfourenovations. I was keen to keep the wall (photo 1) very rough to contrast against the clean, modern lines of the room and pristine white walls but my super perfectionist Painter tried to cover as much as he could to make it as white as possible and by the time I got home from work, the only ‘rough’ industrial area I could salvage, was the bottom part. It would have been nice to have the whole wall in its original state but …

Design bloggers united dinner | Amsterdam

Last Friday I attended a dinner in Amsterdam, organised by friends who are behind Design Bloggers United and it was just perfection. From the choice of the venue at Pistache to the catering by Lady Grey catering and the styling of our table with blue tableware from French company Pillyvuyt, everything was just perfect and I had a really great time. I absolutely loved the venue! My first reaction when I was walked in was the same when I first spotted the glass panel in our new kitchen…WOW…so cool and airy, the kind of place you wish you could move into. The overall feel of the room was amazing but the organisation was just ace. They had planned everything to the perfection. We had drinks from V2C Gin, a Dutch company that makes 100% organic gin and I tried the oaked gin which was very nice. I wish now, I had brought back a bottle for Steve. I absolutely loved the soft, industrial feel of the venue and look at this fab open-plan kitchen… One of the best …
