Last week I flew to Hannover as I was invited to attend Domotex. When it comes to interior design trade shows I usually attend Maison & Objet in Paris and a few in London and I have to admit, both Domotex and Hannover were not on my list of places to visit but I’m so glad I went because it was a visual feast and I met a lot of interesting people including Award-winning Designer Alfredo Häberli (see his site). If you don’t know anything about Domotex, it is The world’s largest flooring trade show and if you are a Retailer, Designer, Architect, Interior Designer, Manufacturer or Journalist, this is the place to be to discover the latest trends and technologies in flooring from rugs, tiles, carpet and wooden floors. The rugs area was by far, my most favourite hall and the one that caused my heart to skip a beat more than once, especially the designs of Berlin-based creative company: Rug Star which I’m sharing with you today.
I first spotted a painted rug on a concrete floor in the holidays home of Paola Navone in Greece and I think it’s a feature that doesn’t get old and feels quite summery too. I love this painted rug very much. What do you think? Is it something you would like to do?
What do you think of this bedroom?? I’m planning to knock down the wall in Elodie’s new flat in Paris, between Lily‘s bedroom and the lounge to increase the sense of perspective and open up the space and I think this is a beautiful example of what can be achieved, don’t you think? I also love the mix of throws and rugs adding warmth and textures to the room. Will be quite happy to hang out there for the day, won’t you? This is the house of Danish Artist Gitte Svendsen via Hunch
I’m very excited by the new collection of handwoven rugs by House Doctor. Like the Block rug from last season (featured below), the new collection introduces patterns and natural colours which will be perfect to add textures to your home.
Last Friday, my friend Mandy and I had a good laugh because our respective businesses (hers is Hush Homewear and for those who don’t know this, mine is BODIE and FOU) were built on the back of great style, French chic, Australian laid-back style and relaxed vibes and our girls, being pre-teens, have sometimes, gone on the opposite side of spectrum with pink leggings and mismatched outfits. When she went to France for the school year, I let Mila decorate her bedroom in our home there but a snapshot of her bedroom with mismatched cushions, colours & patterns on her Instagram, freaked me out (don’t look for it, I have deleted the photo hahaha). The good news is that we are finally turning a corner and since she saw her cousin’s bedroom in Paris (which is almost a BODIE and FOU showroom), she has decided she wants the same look and hallelulia to that! So if you have kids who loves spreading Lego or a boisterous dog with long hair like ours, breathe… there is a light at the end of the tunnel and here are …
How are you using your natural basket or are planning to use it once you get yours? Here are five inspiring and practical ways of using it…. 1/ As a planter I love how talented Stylist and Photographer Line Kay used hers as a planter, which adds textures to her room and it works well with her Papyrus plant. Actually I love the whole look of her room, this grey rug is to die for! (nice rugs here, here, here and here). As an alternative to the traditional planter, I’m using this paper bag (or this one for bigger plants) in our London home.
